Favoriting April 17, 2021: Midnight Matinee: Byrne After Reeding
John Schnall’s Midnight Matinee returns to the WFMU airwaves with Byrne After Reeding. A relatively minor Coen Brothers’ exploration of espionage, plastic surgery, computer dating and gym denizens is turned into an ambitious Midnight Matinee fugal event. Exposition, development and recapitulation wound tightly together around a base of Lou Reed. And, after we Reed, we Byrne. Hosted by John Schnall.

In music, a fugue (/fjuːɡ/) is a contrapuntal compositional technique in two or more voices, built on a subject (a musical theme) that is introduced at the beginning in imitation (repetition at different pitches) and which recurs frequently in the course of the composition. It is not to be confused with a fuguing tune, which is a style of song popularized by and mostly limited to early American (i.e. shape note or "Sacred Harp") music and West Gallery music. A fugue usually has three main sections: an exposition, a development and a final entry that contains the return of the subject in the fugue's tonic key. Some fugues have a recapitulation.[1]

Saw a lot of college busses in this area (could tell by the placards on the front). I imagine there's a softball tourney here, due to the Disney Sportsworld complexes and DeSantis not giving an eff about the pandemic.

(guessing softball as their regular season ended (why do i know this?).

@rich: 2005. She played her double-bass. I played a coronet in a basin of water (w/ a mic for fx), percussion, and firecrackers. I have refused to release any of my recordings except to people I know personally (pissed off many band members). I have the recording on mini-disc.

another week has ended and so has this show. have a safe, healthy, and happy week. thank you for listening and remember, remember those glorious days of our youth, gamboling amongst the fertile fields, nary a care in the world, free of thought, free of concern, ignorant in our bliss, senses working overtime (though a different overtime than the overtime of our teens, twenties, and beyond), no chemicals needed, the world opening up to you, teasing you with possibility, leading you deeper and deeper into the labyrinth where, lost, we spend the rest of our lives. not too shabby as far as labyrinths go, however. personally i like my labyrinth. it’s comfortable in its own way. the minotaur cleans up after itself, so that’s a plus, and if i get lost eventually i’ll find something to occupy my thoughts. so my advice is to enter the labyrinth and enjoy it as your enjoy life. but like life don’t just enjoy it, respect it. it’s your labyrinth, if you lay some string behind yourself to retrace your steps and find your way out don’t just leave it there, pick it up on your way out. respect the labyrinth and the labyrinth respects you. stay tuned for joe.
