pretty sure BW did TM when the band first got into it. he says so in interviews from the day, anyhoo. and there's that pic of the band sitting with the guru from '67/'68 and Bri is there with them.
  11:08am
gf2002:

Brian did do TM before the others, but it wasn't called TM at that time in LA...late '66, early '67 with McGuinn and other Byrds there too. Sort of a mini-scene happening in hip LA circles in late '66. Subud too. Brian was studying TM into '68 but gave it up. He wrote a letter to the maharishi in '68 asking him to allow Mike Love to return to LA from India to finish his parts for the Friends album...

@Dennis Diken, That letter Brian wrote to the maharishi actually went up for auction a few years ago, it was pretty crazy to read! Brian trying to get a hall pass for Mike haha...Then there are the stories of Mike Love's time at the ashram in '68, wheeling and dealing various contraband to his fellow meditators, that's a separate discussion lol

@Dennis Diken It used to be available, I may have a screen shot of it. It was part of an auction from the Milton Love estate that had private letters and photos found in a dresser owned by Milton. The gist of it was "please have Mike be allowed to return to finish recording" or something like that lol. Some of the India stories came from Paul McCartney who said Mike Love had a black market running at the ashram selling things "not allowed" during the studies
