La Luna the moody instinctual ☽Moon has flown into expansive philosophical freedom-loving ♐︎Sagittarius for a couple days. (About 2/3rds of the way thru now.) ☽She is indeed Waning (growing less lit up) - just past the Last Quarter when ☽She is only half illuminated from our view on Terra - & ⧠Square the ⦿Sun - now in ♓︎Pisces - @ 90°.
Whereas ♐︎Sagittarius is philosophical & visionary & a Fire sign - ♓︎Pisces is mystical & empathic - & a Water sign. Ole 'Rick: if yer really asking, I never owned but one or two, as with many super popular artists the music was everywhere and I felt less inclined to have a lot of these records. The only one that I listened to a lot was Thriller, which is amazing.

NTS is the droning prepared banjo to WFMU’s glass harmonica in the weirdo outsider music symphony of my life.

Jeffrey, I’m the first to admit I’m more attuned to the folk/country end of things — more grappling hooks, I guess — but very much enjoy these more meditative dives also. It’s good to mix it up, dammit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am
Jeffrey Davison:

@Ted: mixing it up is what we do, for sure. For me, it all depends on what I find in any given week. Nowadays, I like to feature music which is new, or at least new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Seems to me this Program has always featured Ambient & bits of that sort of Electronic as well as Folk... essentially liminal weekend morning goodness. I for one appreciate it is not the same oldtimey down-home sort of Folk alone that I get on the local NH-Vt NPR affiliates with no options...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18am
Jeffrey Davison:

@Rev Rabbit: years ago, this was just a folk music show, almost all from N. America, England, Scotland and Ireland. Some related stuff as well from Europe etc. I started adding the ambient and all of the other sounds a good long while back...

@zoot > Rahsaan Roland Kirk also propelled some of his reed instruments using an air bladder from a bagpipe, although I don't think it was strictly bagpipes. He used that AND a circular breathing technique to create drones that he could solo over, and more generally to create a spectacle to draw fascinated listeners into his jazz world

@RRN63 I found myself in the same situation. Used to listen to podcasts religiously during the pandemic just as something to keep me company. Now that we're (hopefully) starting to get out of the woods, no time. Commuting by train is great. Just stare out into space and Marie Kondo your mind.

Zoot, Rufus Harley Jr. played jazz bagpipes. Just listened to some of his stuff last week after seeing his album cover on an old record sleeve.

One of my top quality friends is a pretty accomplished Irish Trad Bagpipe player. Any fool can teach themselves Guitar - but where do you learn to wrestle such a Celtic Dragon as that ?! He has to make his own reeds fergawdsake. Pipes are wonderful ...IF somebody can really play them.

This was beautiful to wake up to! Felt like I was in the home of the Blade Runner Decker... you know when Rachel was plying the piano the night after she saves his life...kissed my wife goodbye, she went off to work, and started to cry...
