Facebook Strikes Deal to Restore News Sharing in Australia (Feb 22, 2021). Facebook and Google have made deals with the Australian government and Rupert Murdoch - after Facebook briefly removed all news from its platform. It's "Godzilla vs. Gamera" again, except perhaps that Gamera (FB+G) never before so openly blackmailed a national government.

Facebook might put facial-recognition tech in its smart glasses, due to launch this year (Business Insider, Feb 26)

For about a year, I've been try to push for a kind of simple idea for establishing trust. Just sign your posts, sign your data sign everything! True or false is not as important as what is the provenance of that report or post. Then, you simply don't trust unsigned messages. The trick is to get less friction in the signing/verification process.

NYC Mesh is great (by all accounts, and based on my own brief interactions with their support people). However, it is sadly still very limited in its reach (due to the fact that you need to have a line-of-sight to a site that already has it... in addition to being willing to go through the hoops to set it up on your own location). Which means ins that in many key areas where it could help the most, it's still just practically not available.
