Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
Ike:

Do you get a Spanish-language pirate or a reggae pirate at 91.9? I'm in Sunset Park, Bklyn. Sometimes I get that reggae pirate at 91.9 but fortunately I'm on the west side of the hill w/a view of Manhattan & Jersey City. The pirates are much worse on the east side of the hill (facing Flatbush where most of the Bklyn pirates are).
  12:35am

reggae pirate
  12:36am

i do like the concept of pirate reggae
  12:37am

any good programs on those pirate stations, Ike? I'm kind of happy when folks attempt to do DIY radio of any kind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am
Ike:

@rich, oh that's surprising. That one must be strong. Are you still in Queens? Most of the Queens pirates are Spanish-language and based in Corona or East Jackson Hts., I think.
  12:39am
headcleaner:

(tuning my radio above 91.5 for probably the first time since bought it... oh, so the 91.9 signal is actually for real...)
  12:40am

yes we are. usually we don’t get pirates just a lot of static but they were coming in pretty clearly from about 10pm to 12am

Avatar 12:43am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am
Ike:

@headcleaner, well, if you like people shouting about conspiracy theories over Skype in Haitian Creole they're fine! ;) Otherwise... eh. There used to be an entertaining Jewish Orthodox pirate called "J-Root" but it seems to be gone. It had some funny radio plays and lectures in English with Yiddish or Hebrew lingo sprinkled in.

You can listen to some samples of some of the pirates here:
map.pirateradiomap.com
(Some of the ones listed aren't around anymore.) Hopefully someday the map will expand to Queens.

this is from the soundtrack to robert altman’s film kansas city which has great music throughout, film is also good (just not as good as the music imho). i've seen reviewers compare it to nashville and that doesn’t hold up it’s more like a much better cotton club
