As I’ve already mentioned on the Comments Board for Destination Out 2/14/21, I was amazingly lucky back in college to have heard at the NYU Loeb Student Center a duet between Milford Graves and Andrew Cyrille (with an African percussion and dance troupe as the opening act). Latter on I heard MG at with Charles Gayle and again with John Zorn. The sounds from all these performances are still ringing in my ears. Forgive me for boasting a bit about my good luck. Linda Lee, well, these days we can admit all, I guess! Oddly, the first place I landed, was so decadent, so disgusting frat boy horrors, that I had to tell my parents that I was in far more danger there than walking home from Max's at night.

Linda Lee, yes, I then went to a famous Southern university. I learned more about the "world" than I wanted to. In NYC, I only once had a tentative problem after walking home from Dave's Luncheonette, and so we banged on the doors of The Odeon yelling "he has it out! It! Out!" They let us in with a sneer to make a phone call. This music is matching my memories. *L*

I should be serious during this Albert Ayler but it's so funny to have "old home week" with slugluv1313 and WM at the Loeb show, yes, The Fleshtones! I don't exactly remember, but I was usually the one to dance in the front. ..

i was at that show too, and now that you mention it, it WAS a battle of the bands -- i think Nervus Rex won???

seems it was warmer up in the catskills last weekend than it as here, Ken! wow. i thought to myself: i left those cold mountains for this ..?

slugluv1313 I think you're right, Nervus Rex won the battle of the bands. If I had an account I'd take a photo of my Nervus Rex 45". . .This Milford Graves with David Murray matches my icestorm outside.

@Miss G: I’ll keep on bragging… The first time I heard Sonny Sharrock live was at CBGBs. He was the opening act for a band Deadline that featured Philip Wilson on drums. (Another musician who deserves to be better remembered.) I went to the show because I had heard that Robert Quine, one of my very favorite guitarists, was going be with Deadline. (He didn’t show up for some reason) I had never heard of SS. Deadline was good but it’s SS who sticks in my mind. He gave a great performance with drums and bass. I can still distinctly remember some of the riffs he played.

have not had heat here since Saturday evening, have a couple space heaters that kinda help -- building management sez whole boiler/furnace/system has to be replaced, will take a "few days" -- but NOTHING as bad as some are experiencing in Texas and other parts of the country!
