This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hi Chresti!

Flash Strap:

Ok what happened last week (just to clear a couple of things up):
My A/D converter pooped out then cut back on
This caused my archive recording to record pure feedback
My A/D converter pooped out for a final time
My archive file, which I now noticed was pure feedback, made me think -erroneously- that I had also *broadcast* this feedback, a conclusion that was only possible because I was playing a piece music that COULD conceivably be described that way

That piece was Folke Rabe's "Was?", and to do it justice, we will be hearing it again tonight, hopefully this time without any confusion or breakdown.

Still confused about last week, I think we did hear the feedback, there wasn't much variation of the sounds while I was listening (the variation is subtle, but there)
Did it cut it Again? I have no sound now.

TDK60, would be interested to see your recommendations about later Soft Machine. I have everything up to Six. Sorta stopped listening after Fourth.
Avatar 8:37pm
TDK60:

Well, I like their (Soft M.) '4th' album, Wyatt still on drums, no voc. Their '5th' album has an organ tune, Pigling Bland I like. (Good luck trying to find it online. Searching on Youtube revealed misassigned audio.) "6" has good stuff but I began to lose them.
Avatar 8:37pm
Flash Strap:

vocals here could be David Crosby, Jerry Garcia or Grace Slick, or in combo. A real Head would know
Avatar 8:38pm
Flash Strap:

David Freiberg in the mix too
Avatar 8:40pm
Flash Strap:

(speaking not as an expert) one of the coolest, strangest items in the greater Dead universe. in a minute we'll hear another such outlier

i must admit I've listened to Ned Lagin Seastones a few times in extemely stimulated state, but that was 45 years ago. that vocal sounded like Garcia, he did very similar sounds on some early Dead recordings.
Avatar 8:44pm
northguineahills:

@WR: Not by Mckechnie, but Rich's early work sounds similar, even the Lagin as well... By the 90s-2000s, Rich's work was more into a New Agey territory. I actually like it now....
Avatar 8:45pm
Flash Strap:

Syrinx also possessors of one of the every first moogs - possibly even acquired on the same fateful day

there you are, TDK60 called the name of the tune off Aoxomoxoa where Garcia did similar vocal.

I just heard a somewhat recent interview with Ned Lagin on the Good ‘Ol Grateful Dead Podcast (episode #22) where he talks at length about his past and compositional methodology. The guy is fascinating and the interview is almost as mind-boggling as Seastones itself. I recommend it for the curious.
