Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
First time to your show, Gaylord. Sounds pretty good so far. A lot better than staring at a freakin' Super Bowl!

Gaylord .. yer writings about Kitty Bowls and Puupy bowls were confusing this afternoon... thought there was strife in yer house ... now it all makes sense ... if making sense is possible ... thanks for spinning
@morphe': You don't know me, so you wouldn't know I would never share information about my life like that. No, just saying some people love cats, and that the Puppy Bowl is on during my show. No more, no less.
@Gaylord: I just looked up that Ruth Copeland album, because that track was hot stuff! In addition to her kickass vocals, she had some great players in there with her. Thanks for introducing me.
Good evening Gaylord..Wait, did Ruth just say, 'Sundays I should repent?' She must not know that I am redeemed every Sunday while listening to Gaylord Fields.
Apparently "Copeland" is the magic word, at least for me in the first set. This Beverly Glenn-Copeland is doing for me roughly what the Ruth Copeland did for me: A LOT!
8:40pm
Dean:
What's a nut flour cheese cracker? I think mebbe I et one once.
Welcome, Chili Pagoda! I hope the show enhances the fumes, or vice versa.

Wendy/All - Cheese =>PIAVE @ = Italian High Alpage cow??? I like the medium aged (Blue Label) for grilled cheese ... the aged is almost like a parmagian and the young is almost like a Monterey (found in Dipaoloa's Grand Street)... I have been away from NYC (or in and out).. The original Saxelby in old Essex was my spot .. they have gone to Chelsea MKT ... I must go and say hello ... But new folks in the New Essex have nice things: Valley Shephard = nice people and good cheeses..
http://valleyshepherd.com/our-stores/essex/
@Morphe' -- I've never had Piave younger than the blue label. I'm impressed you can get it to melt. I didn't realize Saxelby moved to Chelsea Mkt. Anne is an old friend but I haven't talked to her in years. Valley Shepherd makes good cheese -- in Morris County, NJ, the land of my birth.
@phat which app are you using? I had that problem with the old WFMU (official) app. Switched over to the WoofMoo app and haven't had a problem since. Nicer UI too
@hyperdose I had actually switched to Woof Moo because of this problem. But tonight WoofMoo isn't working for me either. It plays for like 5 seconds. I'm sure it's some stupid Android thing. my YouTube was being weird earlier, too.
Wait so there’s actually people in attendance at the Super Bowl? As in sitting next to each other in a stadium?? Yeah we’re not getting out of the plague anytime soon.
i read a headline that said 25 percent of the people watching said they will be gathering in a significant number
8:53pm
@chili:
yeah

Room temp with grated fresh beets and carrots and vinaigrette ...
good evening gaylord, wendy, chresti, headcleaner, scott67, steveo, franco twinkie, khd, phat, hyper, all! the woof moo app sounds just fine on android.
Haven't heard any Lothar and the Hand People in 50 years! "Standing on the Moon" got quite a bit of airplay in El Paso, Texas, when I was at Fort Bliss. We had landed a man on the lunar surface that summer and Lothar took my mind off the daily drudgery of learning Vietnamese.
Snayle and Drew, El Paso never appealed to me. Too hot in the summer, kinda chill in the winter. Blue 'Northers and sandstorms, lots of cactus snd roadrunners. And it's a next door neighbor of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico's murder capital.
...not The Same Old Song...but I can see it from here ! Loves this LoFi authentic ska.
9:07pm

This week would be Panorama Fest and Carnival prep in T&T .. spent yesterday in Staten Island listening to old Pan...
ps.. my mates are all Phase II contingent ... I tend to wander all the yards and compounds ..
ps Joe McGasko's Pan 2020 Premium is worth a buy ... vist the FMU Shop!!!
@Gerry, I feel ya, but I loved every minute of it because I was 7-13 years old and had a mountain bike near the edge of town. Aside from the scorpions, I loved El Paso. If I lived there as an adult, Im not sure how I would have taken it.
@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Ha! It's pretty recursive, considering "Same Old Song" is a copy itself, but at least the same group is doing the copying in that case.
@Gerry & Drew - gotcha...there were parts I didn't like but coming home at 7am after an all night airshift & being able to hang at the pool by noon almost all year round had its perks..... Bassett was still standing last trip thru but after this last year not sure what stores survived...
9:13pm
phat:
@drew a friend of mine had turned me on around 2001and I've never stopped listening.
@Gerry and Snayle - I have no idea about Bassett shopping mall, i do remember I was living there when the Sunland Park mall was built. I only remember going to that one.
Gaylord, you shocked me with that Steve Alaimo record a few songs back. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Alaimo was a celebrity down here in south Florida. Later, he hosted Dick Clark''s Where the Action Is TV program.
Thanks Gaylord... must sadly drop out a bit early... community service ..
shovelling the Community Garden....
Thanks to all too ... especially at monty !!!!

love the gauzey, dreamy texture you're, using, gaylord
@Willism R Nicholas: I appreciate your appreciation — thanks!

Gerry from Miami:
Gaylord, then you probably know that Steve's former manager, Miami.DJ Bob Green, was married to the infamous Florida Sunshine Girl/Orange Juice Queen, pop singer Anita Bryant.
Playing catch up. My OG Twitter handle and eventually
WFMU handle was inspired by Apples in Stereo. Probably because of their Powerpuff Girls song “Signal in the Sky” that really spoke to me in HS.
Speaking of a wheelbarrow full of royalties, Roddy Frame here, the leader of Aztec Camera, surely picked up some coin for writing "Jump, " famously covered by Van Halen.
Thanks for the Fab sounds and the great hang Sir G! Here's to a wonderful winter wonderland of a week ahead ! Cheers ! And... oh SILVER FOX EVERY WEEK ! :)
9:59pm

once again, I was helped by the show to get some work done.
