There's an actual cement mixer outside our bldg., and the driver is just leaning on his horn to somehow point out that traffic should move again. Secret weapon. Holy crap, the failure of everything.

Hey, HyperDose. That's an excellent question. I might have to juice some limes to get away from this noise.

I saw Bertolucci's "1900" (1975) (director's cut), 5.5 hours (took two weekends to finish). Couldn't find an Italian version (found it on Hulu), so, the English dub was clumsy. Basically, the story of socialism vs fascism, landowners vs peasants, from the late 19th c to the end of wwii. Had the most adolescent male frontal nudity since I saw Makevejev's "Sweet Movie" (also 1975)

I think the career of Bogdanovich proves exactly the opposite of the auteur theory - the idea that the director is the sole author of a film and can transform junk into jewels through the magic of directorial style. When he had a good story (LPS) he made a good film and when he was left on his own he just rehashed scenes from the extensive list of films he had viewed.

I gotta say, I think Scorcese is amazing in all his film endeavors but he too needs a good script; and when he gets a good script, like Taxi, look what he can do!

David in London:

Peter Biskin goes in pretty hard on Bogdanovich in Easy Riders, Raging Bulls as I remember. And, raw talent aside, massive amount of egomania and coke weren’t a good recipe for steady, creative highs. See also Friedkin, P.

I make an exception in your case, Handy.

Rev Rabbit, I think it’s a Von Stroheim inspired myth that too many people who make films still buy into, the filmic equivalent of joining the 27 Club in rock and roll. It doesn’t have to be that way, but it often is. I saw it writ large with my cohort at film school.

I have been doing IT project at Game Stop stores. Those fucking places are patronized by addicts and people in crisis. People constantly trying to sell games and many times a day women escort young men into the store to sell their console. It's the culmination of an ultimatim. Game addicts play 22 hours a day. That addiction is high overhead. An internet connection, couch, electricity and a structure to host those things is required. And there has to be an enabler paying for it.

ledzepsucks: I play one or two games a year, I'm a fan of the non-linear open-world ones where you can wander around and do whatever you like. They can be really addictive, and when I play, I tend to binge like I do with a series I'm hooked on. Thankfully though, there are months if not a year between them. My ADHD works as a great failsafe in that regard (I'm diagnosed, not just saying I have it as some folks do).
